Love Our Local – Union Road

Love Our Local-Union Road is a series of events celebrating everything local: the local people, the local community and the local Union Road shopping precinct.

Wooden ‘little shops’ are being hidden around Union Road, Ascot Vale for locals to find in order to receive great rewards from local businesses. The promotion is part of the ‘Love Our Local – Union Road’ campaign which encourages locals to discover the many shopping opportunities in the Union Road business precinct.

Moonee Valley City Council Chief Executive Officer Bryan Lancaster said the program was a fun way to get locals out and about exploring their neighbourhood.

“There are some great businesses in the area and this promotion is a fun and affordable way for locals to discover places they may not frequent,” Mr Lancaster said.

“The rewards include special offers and discounts on coffee, magazines, massages, doggie treats and much more.

“Over 100 hand-crafted ‘little shops’ will be distributed from mid-October, so keep your eyes out for them next time you’re on or around Union Road. Once a ‘little shop’ is found and redeemed it will be redistributed back out into the community for the next person to find.”

The ‘Love Our Local – Union Road’ campaign is a trial as part of Council’s wider Buy Local Moonee Valley campaign that aims to remove barriers to shopping locally across the municipality.

“This is one of the innovative ways that Council is supporting and investing in the development of the local businesses that make Ascot Vale such a vibrant place to live,” Mr Lancaster said.

The little shops will be hidden around Union Road, Ascot Vale and ready to find from mid-October 2016.

‘Love Our Local – Union Road’ will also include a range of other promotions and temporary artworks to cement Union Road’s status as a vibrant shopping destination.

Make sure to follow the fun on our Facebook page! We’ll be posting updates and sharing snaps as the event continues.

    Hi There,

Just wondering how I could suggest a local trader on Union Road to be featured with one of the ‘love your local’ advertisements found in various places down the street?

Garrett Hebden, Director of Better Bathrooms & Kitchens has been a local trader in Union Road since 1999 – would be great to see if we could do a profile on him and the business to add to the street features

      Hi Carolyn

Thank you for your suggestion nominating Garrett Hebden to feature in a Local Story. These stories have been well received and enjoyed by many. The Union Road Traders Association has discussed the possibility of doing this again next year and we will keep Garrett in mind for an interview.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your message.

      Regards Judy
